Garment Bags
Plastic
garment bags come in a lot of different styles and flavors so to speak.
You can get them clear, you can get them made of synthetic leather, you
can get the poly vinyl kind.
I do want to warn you about the last one. That kind of plastic can
crack over time and in colder temperatures. And last time I flew they
were showing us outside air temperatures. At that time it was around
minus 66 F.
That's really, really cold. In actuality the best plastic garment bags
are used merely for clothes storage. They are a cheap, easy way to keep
the dust and other contaminates off of your more expensive clothing
items that don't get used much or are being stored for a different
season. For example, wool clothing, sports jackets being stored for the
winter.
Again as above, you want to keep it in some warmth. A cracked bag
destroys the whole purpose of having the bag in the first place.
Your best bet to get a good deal on one is to buy more than one. You
can even get wholesale prices if you order in sufficient quantity.
Usually if you order more than a dozen, you'll get a price break. Do
keep in mind that if you're looking for a garment bag for travel
purposes, then you should be looking into cloth or canvass as your base
material.
In a pinch, you can use a old rain poncho or even a large trash liner
as a plastic garment bag. Heck I've even done that myself back when I
was single. It's obvious that I was on to something as most plastic
garment bags available today are made by plastic bag companies (and
they are available at quite reasonable prices).
